Benefits: Klip Dagga is also known as Lion's Ear, Shandilay (Trinidad), Christmas Candlestick (America) and Grantiparani (India). Klip Dagga (Leonotis nepetifolia) and Wild Dagga (Leonotis leonurus) are often confused, as they look similar and are called the same common names: Lion's Ear and Wild Dagga.
Klip Dagga has long been used as traditional medicine in Africa to treat things like fevers, headaches, malaria, dysentery and snakebite. It also has an effect on the uterus and depending on the dose, may stimulate or suppress menstruation. Klip Dagga has been used as a common cold, fever and asthma remedy in Trinidad.
Studies have stated that teas or tinctures made with Klip Dagga leaf possesses anti-nociceptive properties (can inhibit the sensation of pain), is an anti-inflammatory and hypoglycemic. This has made uses of this herb popular in the management and/or control of painful, arthritic, and other inflammatory conditions, as well as for adult-onset type-2 diabetes mellitus.
Klip dagga smokers report mood enhancement, increased color perception and mental clarity. It also gives euphoric and slightly psychedelic effects.
